Hands-on portfolio evidence. Job postings for Looker roles increasingly ask candidates to describe dashboards they have built, metrics they have defined, or data problems they have solved. A certification without concrete examples of your work carries less weight than one supported by a portfolio of Looks and dashboards.
Table calculation fluency. Complex table calculations (running totals, period-over-period comparisons, conditional aggregations) appear in technical screening questions at companies that use Looker heavily. This is the single area where candidates differentiate themselves most clearly in interviews.
Stakeholder communication. BI analyst roles at mid-size companies in particular require presenting Looker dashboards to non-technical audiences. The Explorer certification signals that you can manage the full cycle — from exploration to polished dashboard delivery — without LookML support.
